This unit standard is for persons who need to demonstrate knowledge of the Firearms Control Act 2000 (Act No 60 of 2000), herein after the Act that is applicable to legally possess a firearm. Persons credited with this unit standard are able to:
• Demonstrate understanding of the statutory duties and obligations of firearm ownership as contained in the Act;
• Demonstrate understanding of the statutory prescriptions applicable to the possession, handling, carrying, storage and use of firearms as prescribed by the Act; and
• Demonstrate understanding of the statutory prescriptions applicable to the possession and storage of ammunition as prescribed by the Act.
Our basic firearm unit standard courses covers legal aspects relating to when you may and may not shoot in self-defense situations, firearm safety, loading and unloading and the fundamentals of shooting.

Our business purpose courses teaches a higher level of proficiency than the basic courses and is a requirement for Security Personnel, Personnel and Members of official institutions, Field guides/ Game rangers, Professional hunters. The various courses focuses on a high standard of shooting and includes holster-work, sling work, firearm transition drills, dealing with malfunctions and shooting against time limits.
The entry level to this course is Unit Standard 119650 – Handle & Use a Self-Loading Rifle / Hand Machine Carbine (BASIC).
The entry level to this course is Unit Standard 119652 – Handle & Use a Shotgun (BASIC).

What is Regulation 21 Training everyone talks about? It is important to know what procedures need to be followed by security companies and security officers who work with firearms and need to comply with the law.
The security officer must be found Competent in the Unit Standard/s related to “Handle and Use of (relevant firearm/s) for business purposes”. It seems that there is confusion about the minimum requirements for security officers when using firearms and a Competency Certificate issued by the South African Police Service.
RENEWAL OF BUSINESS PURPOSES COMPETENCY CERTIFCATE
Upon successful completion of the REG 21 training, the learner will receive a training certificate from the service provider, a personal course report stipulating the aspects covered and an SAPS prescribed document for Sworn Statement declaring successful completion of the training.
